About LinkBacksSo I know Diners Club was HUGE back in their hay day but now they're pretty non-existent in America. Does anyone know if they offered discounts at certain restaurants? that would be cool if they did and would definitely make it's popularity skyrocket. Otherwise what would the point be of having one.

yeah i don't think so. you're right someone really does need to come out with a restaurant reward credit card that gives more than 1 or 2% cashback. i know i'd get that especially if it included fast food and coffeeshops and all that good stuff.
speaking of fast food... whatever happened to the $1 value menus? wendy's is now like a $1.69 value menu

From what I know Diners Club doesn't offer any restaurant discounts. It's more like travel benefits and protection. Kind of like the American Express Gold and Platinum cards offer.
Yeah that would be great if a card came out that offered a good discount on eating out.

Chase has a restaurant discount program
Chase has some offer they sent me in the mail for one of their cards that they call the "Prestige" program. It's one of those things you have to pay for ($79 a year) but it does offer automatic rebates at thousands of restaurants (they didn't mention which ones) for 5 to 20% off. Does anyone know which restaurants chains they use for this program?

I've got that offer from Chase too before. I wonder if it's any good. I'm always hesitant about paying any type of annual fee though.

The most any card out there gives you for restaurants is 2% to 3%.

If Diners Club/Discover is smart they'll do that thing I mentioned from Chase. They'll go ahead and set up some sort of arrangement with restaurant chains to get 10% or so discounts when they pay with that card. I think that's the smart way to reinvent Diners Club and make them trendy again. I know I would open one up if they had most of the major chain restaurants participating. Hell I know I've deliberately chose Ruby Tuesdays before only because the Amex Open program gives 5% discounts there, so that restaurant got business from me they normally wouldn't. Diners Club should do the same thing because right now there's no real incentive to use DC over Amex.
