I was with family for dinner and knowing that I had found Discover customer service and competitiveness lacking in the past, was asked if I had seen the "Free Credit Health Checkup" button on the initial internet screen after you sign in, and what I thought.
It was news to me. Turns out that 3 of the 4 people who have a Discover ( not everyone of the 8 did) don't get this service from Discover but 1 did ( we checked a few accounts online. The one who did is the oldest and has the longest relationship with Discover.)
The discussion then turned to the unevenness which Discover seems to handle matters of customer service, issue resolution, responsiveness, and credit line management. Word of mouth was not in Discover's favor based on substance. What was funny was discussion of Peggy commercials and how unattached the commercials were from why people really get or use a credit card to actually buy things ( perceptions (right or wrong) about credit line, annual fee , APR, stability/strength, acceptance, rewards; as opposed to someone else's customer service).
Our gathering seemed biased towards using Visa / Mastercard this past holiday season. Chase and Citi were getting pretty good word of mouth comments.
My Discover is still "back of wallet", with some but infrequent usage.
