I recall reading that they have a 25k limit. I have two of thier cards and a very long history (`99, my second card ever), with a combined limit of 22300.

The limits on my cards aren't nearly that high.

In 2009, I applied for the Discover More card and was given an 8K limit. I consistently put 2,500-5,000 on the card each month (paying down the balance in full multiple times a month to keep utilization down). I called a few times in 2010 and spoke to a representative and asked for a CLI. They wouldn’t give one to me based on my usage…said they would need to do an inquiry. I always said no thank you. At the beginning of 2012 I called and used the automated service. When the system asked why I was requesting an increase, I selected “Balance Transfer”. I requested a 2k increase and was approved.
New credit limit is 10K.
I read somewhere that they were more likely to give you an increase if your thinking about a balance trans. I don’t know if that’s true, but it seems to have worked for me. There is also nothing that requires me to now make a balance transfer.
Discover actually asked me if I was "okay" with the credit limit that they offered when I was approved. That may have been something they do for everyone that talks to them when they apply, but since the limit was three times higher than any other card I had at the time, I was "okay" with it.![]()

I have had my Discover card for too long to remember my initial credit line. I think it has been $15K for at least 10 years. But I imagine that since the 2008 financial collapse, they might be a little more stingy with credit lines.
Opened my card in 2006 with Discover. It is a open road card. The gave me a $5000 limit, it is now $7500.
maybe its how discover was formed?
To be honest Discover gave me a good credit line. I have a $500 with Cap1 (yuck if anything they give the worst credit lines), 1K with Citi and 1K with Discover. Also only got $500 with chase for a freedom which is half of what Discover gave me and I bank with them!
Do you think you would do better by applying for a regular discover instead of a student discover?
I opened my Discover More account July 2011, and they gave me a credit limit of $1000, and that's where it still stands. I pay in full every month, and I've run it up to a max of $900 or so around Christmas last year.
I love my Discover Card and their customer service is great, but it unfortunately does have the lowest CL of my cards. I'd love to try for an increase, but for me it isn't really worth a hard pull, i'd rather open another rewards card to take advantage of, haha.
