Default Any news on Diners Club cards?

I know Discover bought Diners Club's network in 2008. BMO bought the rights to issue Diners Club cards in North America.

However, as of October 2011 Citi still issues Diners Club cards even though they don't accept new applications since 2009. What's the fate of this card? I wonder if BMO will try to revive this card in North America. I would really love to get a Diners Club card.

I have not heard anything. Discover bought the network primarily so that Discover cards could be accepted abroad. Diners Club cards here in the US are branded as MasterCards...kind of defeats the purpose of having a premium card. American Express surpassed Diners Club decades ago and the market looks pretty flat. If it is brought back it will likely be marketed towards businesses and international travelers.

Just curious why do you want a card that's no longer around (except for people who already have the card?). would you want a
    American express optima card?

I already have a Platinum AmEx. The only reason I want it it's because Diners Club is a legend. It was the first charge card. It would be like a collectible item. I'm willing to pay the $100 yearly fee. I just hope that once BMO completely takes over Diners Club, they start accepting personal accounts.

I remember Telly Savalas did commercials for Diner's Club when I was a kid in the 80s. Diners Club is pretty much ancient history today; it couldn't compete and I am not sure Bank of Montreal is wanting to undertake such a job to make DC relvant again. They have their hands full with Harris Bank in Chicago and their recently acquired M&I Bank of Wisconsin.

You never know of course, but I believe Diners Club would be a hard sell to Americans these days. I certainly wouldn't pay to carry one-especially since they aren't accepted everywhere (assuming they would go back to their 14 digit account number without the MasterCard logo). From what I have read, even internationally, Diners Club is considered for of a business card than a personal card.
