Default Discover 1986 through Mid 2005

For anybody who is in their 30's and 40's who has had a Discover card for a while. do you remember did you apply over the phone, on there site or did you fill out an application? do you remember where you picked up the application? do you remember what the annual income was?

I filled out the application I picked up at Caldors. the annual income requirement was $15,000.

When Discover first started it was actually an off-shoot of Sears and that is where you would go to apply for it. Funny, huh?
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

I've had mine since I was 18, so around 1988. I believe I filled out an paper application at Sears for it. I went in to buy something there and had the option of the Sears card or Discover card and chose Discover since I could use it elsewhere. Of course at the time they didn't tell you that half the stores wouldn't take it and that Penney's was hell-bent to never take it. Glad JCP finally got over that.

I picked up the application from a gas station and mailed it in on or about 1998, My very first card with a whopping $1000.00 credit limit. It opened the way for me to every credit i have today. If i can go back in time, i will like to redo that application again.

Funny story a few years back while i was spring cleaning / moving, i found an old application for the Shell MasterCard (Must have picked it up with the discover app), i filled it out and mailed it but the application was never processed, they wrote me back thanking me and advising me to reply with an up to date application.

So that's what happens. I wonder what the difference is between the old and current applications.

I applied for mine from an application at the check out from Sears back around 1993 (fresh back from Okinawa). Like OOXS stated had to fill it out and mail it in.

Then you had to wait weeks to find out if you were approved or not. If not there was just a letter "Sorry but at this time... blah, blah blah." They did not have to tell you anything about why or your credit score. I am not sure if you were allowed to pull your credit report for free after being rejected. Things have changed in the past 20 years in the credit world.

I didn't know that gas stations used to put out applications for credit cards other than theirown. I know stores like sears, Caldors, channels, macy's, hotels and airports use to put out credit card applications. But I don't rember applications at gas stations for other cards.

so your membership is the same as mine 1998.
