Default It can take 2 weeks for a payment to be reflected on your statement. But why ?

Discover's website for making an online payment indicates that it can take up to two weeks for a payment to be reflected on your statement.

This is absurd in practice. Does anyone really believe such nonsense. Has anyone experienced a practice this absurd?

Any idea why would a "customer driven" organization would say anything this ludicrous, much less actually operate this way?

The only answer would be not posting the payment they had actually received and in effect holding on to it. Even if someone's payment didn't clear it would get posted and then reversed.

No kidding, this is a serious question.

I have always had my payments reflected within 24 hours of receipt on my Discover More account. I am not sure where you read this but it might be there for legal reasons in a "worst case" scenario, like a personal check of a large amount that has to clear and to account for mailing time.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

If you go to the Discover website, enter your account and go to make a payment tab this is the message you will get for making an online payment through their website.

You will also see a different message on the recent account activity tab indicating it will take 1 to 3 days for your payment to appear on the account.

The account agreement governs the legalities of the account. They always have that to fall back on and can always reverse an error or inappropriate transaction. They also have 100% of spending control with authorization risk and fraud thresholds for access to the credit line if a payment isnt good.

The online "cues" and messages on the website, which is what I am referring to, set and manage consumer expectations and provide operating directions.

All that aside, from a purely practical, real life, human being perspective, if you send money electronically, with no paper involved and good available funds in US currency it should post in 24 hours and it is nonsensical for Discover to lead anyone to believe that it can take up to 2 weeks to be reflected on the statement by paying online. Now, it can take a day for the sender to administratively set up the payment , sure, so lets even go 48 hours...but 2 weeks to be reflected?

Just being reasonable here; a suggestion to the mass market user of the website who sees that webpage that it can take up to 2 weeks for an online payment to reflected on an online statement makes these guys appear like buffoons at best or devious at worst and is simply comical. Just my opinion.
