Default Approved for Discover card but never applied?

    Hi,

I was approved for a Discover card, however I never applied for one at all.
According to the email, the card that "I" applied for is on the way. And that I should go to Discover.com to "customize my account". I even have an account number.

I called Discover, and they stated that this was normal. And that when I receive the card I should just cut it up. She said that as long as I don't call the number to activate the card, it would not appear in my credit report.

Is this true? How did they get my information?

This is the email in question:

    Thanks.

I'd call back until you get a better CSR. This is potentially fraud - they can send you a pre-approved offer, but that is their standard acceptance letter after you yourself have applied. There is nothing normal about getting this if you didn't apply. I'd keep an eye on your reports, you could be looking at identity theft.

This doesn't make sense I would suspect fraud. Get on this right away.
