Default $10 cashback bonus for not using card

I signed up for a Discover More card about 3 months ago and I haven't used it yet. Because of this I got a letter today in the mail from Discover offering a $10 cashback bonus if I make $100 in purchases before Sept 1st.

Maybe if I stop using all my credit cards they will make offers like this for me to use them again haha.

Just an incentive/bribe to make you use the card. I keep getting incentives/bribes to sign up for paperless statements to just view my statements online and making online payments/sign up for auto withdrawals.

Actually a couple of my cards gave incentives too when I stopped using them. The Citi Dividend and the Chase card both sent things in the mail when I went around 6 months without any activity. The Chase promo was over a year ago but I think it was for $25 statement credit for $75 in spending. That was good enough to get me to use it that month. But at the end of the day the card's normal rewards will determine whether I use it on a regular basis or not.

Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

$10 wouldn't be enough for me but the $25 incentive to use my credit card again would probably work. If they really want to keep a customer long term though they would up their rewards instead. I would keep using the Citi Dividend if they upped the rewards for gas and groceries back to 5%.

    Cool

Most card users get the most out of their cards if they pay off the balance every month. Even Davy Ramsey would agree with that (maybe)! I use two gas cards that pay rewards of 5% on all gas purchases from their own brand stores only!

Guys since it was a free $10 I did go ahead and put $100 in purchases on that card this past statement. What I liked was Discover gave me the credit right away.

When I've had things like that from American Express it usually takes 2 or 3 billing cycles before their promotion (whatever it is) show up.

Something that would actually work to get me to sign up for and use a card is if they offered higher cashback or rewards. If Citi offered the 5% cashback on gas/groceries/pharmacies for 6 months or longer as an incentive to go back to using their Dividend card I would do it. Paying a measly ten bucks isn't enough I agree haha. The main reason I used that card again was more to help my credit record.

It would take way more than $10 just for me to keep a credit card!!! Give me strippers, hookers, and booze and then maybe I'll think about keeping it.
