Default Discover Card Foreign Transaction Fee

Can someone please tell me what the Discover card foreign transaction fee is. I also need to know if the transaction fee is the same in all international destinations of it it's different country by country. My family is taking a trip to China and read that Discover cards are the most accepted there so we will be taking one with us. Thanks.

Last I checked the Discover card's foreign transaction fee was 2%. Most credit card companies charge a 3% fee but Capitol One charges no foreign transaction fee but like you said the benefit for Discover in China would be that it is reportedly more widely accepted there.

More importantly, Discover is treated as a domestically-issued card in China. If a store tells you they don't take foreign cards, make them try. This is because they have to pay extra interchange fees to accept Visa/MC/AmEx/JCB/etc (labeled as "foreign cards") while Discover runs through the local debit/credit card network and has very low interchange fees (less than Discover charges merchants in America, which, I assume, is part of the reason they charge you that 2%). Most stores will accept cards for purchases large and small. And on the off-chance you need a cash advance (not the brightest idea, but sometimes you get backed into a corner) any ATM will work.

(depending on where you're going, feel free to ask- I live here)
