Default Diners Club Car Rental Insurance Scam

I use (or did use) my Diners Club Card for car rentals because of the automatic car rental coverage. Never again. I figured in case I had an accident it would pay and I would have saved the rental car company insurance premium. I was wrong.

I used the Diners Club card in Canada this summer and scrapped a guardrail. The car repair was $1900 canadian. Diners only reimbursed me $1400 US. The refused to pay:

    1. the currency conversion fee they charged my card

    2. the canadian sales tax on the repair

    3. loss of use of the car for the rental company

    4. Diners Card also charged me an administrative fee for the claim of $100

The above amounted to approximately $500. I would have been far better off just buying the car rental insurance. The "administrative fee" alone would have paid for the insurance.

I used to think Diners Card was a good deal and a reputable company. I learned differently the hard way

Don't use Diners Card for car rentals thinking their insurance is a good deal. IT IS A HUGE RIP-OFF.

I hate it when credit cards plays games like that with rental coverage but that's even more surprising for an annual fee card like Diners Club.

You may want to take a look at this: Credit Card Car Rental Insurance

THat is awful. If the accident happens in the USA is sales tax still charged on the repairs?
