    Default Discover More approval insights

I recently got approved for this one. Since I see a few threads with questions I figure I'd put in my 2 cents. My only other CC is a USAA MC Platinum with a $11000 limit. I checked my FICO on experian the other day and it said 701 so I figured it was worth a shot. I applied online for the Discover More with the deal for $50 cashback after the first $599 in 3 months. After a minute or two the screen said I am conditionally approved, please call this number to finish the deal. Like has been said in other threads, they just want you to have a chat with a real person first. So I called and he asked my why I want the card, I said for the reward points. He asked about my job and as soon as I said I was active duty military he approved me. Only a $2000 limit but that is sufficient for my needs at the moment.
Then he was extremely pushy about trying to sell me the debt protection insurance, which I declined 3 times before he gave up. I am sure he was just reading from a script that requires him to push it, or else he gets a commission or something. I pay mine off every month and make sure my checking acct balance always exceeds my CC balance so debt insurance is not an issue.
I asked him if I could change the design on the card to the black one and that was not a problem. It has not come in the mail yet but I am looking forward to the rewards. Nothing better than getting cash back off something I was going to buy anyway.

Congrats on getting the card. Back in 2008 I heard murmors that 705 to 710 was the minimum for Discover so that's great to get approved with a 701 in today's economy. Their customer service does occasionally try and do the upsells but I would much rather have that than a foreign rep. From the best of my knowledge all of Discover's customer service is domestic.

My Discover is my longest standing card and every time I call they try to up sell and I tell them not to waste their breath. While they did aggravate me and I've used my card less their rewards are great and it is nice talking to a call center in Utah or somewhere in the United States and being able to actually have a conversation with the representative.

Ha! I preface every call to a credit card with "Don't tell me about credit protection services because I'm not interested" and it does the trick. The most annoying part is when activating a credit card we are forced to hear these sales pitches from every bank out there.
