Approved! Good starting limit!

Postby NWC28 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 3:40 pm

So I finally applied after my pre approved offer sat on my coffee table staring at me for about a month. I didn't think that my score would be good enough. I applied online and got an error message because of site maintenance.

So I called the recon number immediately to see if my app went through. I've heard a million times about how friendly discover CSRs are but I couldn't even believe my own ears at how nice the two reps I spoke with were. The first rep apologized up and down and told me my app didn't go through- then she asked if I wanted to app over the phone and connected me with the second rep I spoke with. She was very articulate and made applying really easy.

My TU FICO is 716 and my EQ FICO is 734 I have two cap1 cards one is $850CL the other is $2000CL and a macys card with $2500CL total UTL 20%. Not big limits and there's a chase charge off on my EQ from 2007. So get this .... She says "Congratulations! Welcome to Discover! Your credit limit is $8500"

I was like :D :Dwaaaattt? ! I guess all of you guys are right about discover giving high limits to people with low limit cards and decent credit.

Once again great advice from all you guys!

Congrats!

I wonder how Discover come up with CL. I have 800+ credit score and 5 cc's with decent limit and only got $5k CL for Discover.

I doubt it.

My coworker and I applied for the discover card the same day (well same time but different computers).

Me
-Higher credit score
-More history
-Same income

And he was given $1500 more than I did.

why is that?

to top it all of 6 months later he was given a credit limit increase..

ohh and he has to many card opened at once.. so yeah

maybe it's all in the details? they might have liked his portfolio moreso than yours. not that you are happy about it, but it's not in the banks best interest to randomly give people more. there are reasons for it :P

My circumstances were similar to yours and I got a $4K limit. Called after 90 days and requested a CLI. It got denied. Called after 9 months and all they would give me was $1K. Never tried again after that. After about 18 months they bumped the CL to $15K without me even requesting it..
