Discover It approved!!!

Postby ioseida » Sat Mar 29, 2014 9:10 pm

Hello everyone this is my first post but I have been an avid reader in here for about 3-4months. I finally decided to go for the Discover it card since I have not applied for a card in a while. And wanted a higher credit limit since my max was 3,500 with Bank of America.

Experian Fico was 745 before application

I was approved with a 9,000 CL for Discover it, finally ready to get some rewards. ;)

Other cards
Cap 1 platinum 500CL at zero now
Best Buy 1,000CL @ 85 now
Chase Slate 1,000CL @ zero now
Chevron gas 2,000 CL @ zero now
Amazon 2,000 CL @ 350 now
Bank of America 3,500 CL @ 450now

Congrats. Don't forget to ask for CLI after 90 days (that was when I got mine).

Congratulations to you that's an awesome limit.

And there is I think another data point that having only low limit cards will tend to improve the chances of you getting a high limit card with Discover. Makes me wish I would have applied when I had a 3k high limit, but I didn't know this then.

Samething here, my friend who seems to compete with me on cards and score had a credit limit increase on his discover card from $2k to $3k- we applied during the same time i was instantly approved and he had to call to verify- thry gave him a limit of 2k while i was given $500 less.. I was like why haven't they done the same to me.. few day's passed and to my surprised amex gave me an increase from $2k to $3k... haha amex has not given him an increase..so I guess we're evened out now- but discover is my lowest limit yet. All is good as long as amex does do the same to him...

It goes back to different lenders like to see different things. Amex is known to like PIF and high rollers while Discover seems partial to balance carriers without high limit cards. Doesn't mean either company won't do business with those who don't fit what they like to see, just means that's what they seem partial to and more likely to desire. And that's a big part of the reason I recommend people try out as many creditors as possible to determine the ones who really want your business because you just never know for sure until you try.

Surprisingly this weekend, Discover automatically increased my CL from 3.5K to 6.8K.
I am not complaining. :P

I wouldn't either that's a terrific increase. How long have you had it? Do you put lots of spend on it and carry a balance?

Had it since 2010. I used to used discover a lot (around 1500-2000 per month), but these days I use it for 5% category mostly, so the spending for last two months has gone down a lot (just spent 300 on discover last month).
May be the discover saw activity on my other cards and decided to increase CL.

The same thing happened in 2012. I went on a vacation out of States and didn't use my Discover at all for a month, and upon returning back, I saw a mail from discover saying that they have increased my CL.
There you go, thats the pattern for me.

I just got my first "Thanks for being a card holder" letter from Discover. In it was a $5 Starbucks gift card. Only took me 24 hrs to use it :)
