Discover IT: Adding an Authorized User

Postby Ikarus » Thu Mar 13, 2014 12:31 am

Is it possible to add an authorized user and not generate a card for the user?

I'd like to add an authorized user for the FICO reporting benefits.

I already have this person as an authorized user on another card for spending to help build credit.

The Discover IT is just for FICO purposes, hence no need for the card.

A good play?

Have the card mailed to your residence, but don't provide it to the AU you're adding. Problem solved. You don't HAVE to give it to them. Many folks do that with their kiddos.

That's the only reason I have the Discover It. I'm the primary user, not authorized user, but I only use it for the FICO. I charged $750 the first week I got it for the sign up bonus but haven't charged a cent since and don't plan to. It's a good play and works great for me.

Called up Discover. The FICO feature is only available for primary cardholder.

A 2nd FICO score for an authorized user will not show.

That stops that.

Well at least we have that information now for future people that think about doing this. Too bad though. Assuming they're credit worthy why not just sign up that person for their own card, no annual fee and it is actually a pretty decent card so not much to lose.

Unfortunately, they're not credit worthy. No credit profile whatsoever.

For now, being an authorized user on CapOne will work to jump start a credit profile.
