As a renter it's been like that for me too, but now that I'm planning to buy, these quarters will come in handy. Some you win some you don't.

Please don't!

It is a dark and lonly place, beyond hope... beyond care. Believe me, I have spent a good portion of my life in there. Just toss it into the sock drawer and keep it secret, keep it safe.

I just signed up for this qtr. At first I wasn't that thrilled, especially since I just spent a ton at Lowe's on stuff that (I thought ) couldn't wait. I am about to buy a new sofa though that cost $1700--guess it will only take one purchase to max out his qtr...

The home improvement stores sell lots of stuff. Cleaning products, soda/snacks, batteries, gift cards, etc. I'm still going to make use of it but I definitely won't be maxing out the quarter.

You could buy AmEx gift cards. The 5% earns you a little over $1 after taking out the activation fee. I just use my BCE at grocery stores because I'm lazy and don't feel like going to a separate store to buy GC before doing errands.

I very rarely need to purchase anything from Lowes or Home Depot, so I thought I'd go the gift card route. Went into Lowes, and they didn't have any gift cards that were pre-loadable Visa Vanilla or the like. They had some Shell gas station ones in $25 denominations, but that was about it. Went to Home Depot, and they had a bigger variety of the Green Dot Visa and MasterCard ones, PayPal Mastercard, and a few others. I was looking for the debit ones, so I didn't take a look into the Amex gift card ones. The verbiage on all of the GreenDot ones, as well as the PayPal one, said you couldn't buy it with a credit card, Cash only, so I came up empty.
