Discover It for Students - chances of getting approved

Postby Dsquad48 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 11:29 pm

Hey all! New to the forums here. I've been looking around for a new card to continue the credit building process. I've had a low limit ($150) credit card through my local credit union for about a year and a half, and my Experian credit score is 713. I've never missed a payment, use only about 15% of my credit limit, etc. etc. The only negative part of my credit report would be the fact that I have 8 inquiries. When I got my first bank account, I was dumb and started applying for a bunch of cards, which were all rejected (except for the one I have now, obviously).

I decided to apply for the Discover It Student card, and I'd like to know what you think my chances of getting approved are?

The IT is my first card. I didn't have any before. Im surprised they didn't give me a secured card. Anyway, I think you have a good chance with your credit score. Are your inquiries recent as in a within the past couple months?

My daughter was in a similar boat, score around 720, no other credit card, student loans (deferred) and inquiries related to the student loans. She got the Discover IT for students, was instantly approved, I think she's got a $2K limit.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

They're all over a year old except for one I made for a car loan last October, and the one I made for the It card.

Like others have said it was my first card as well and got a $1.5K limit. I think that if they deny you it will give you the option to have a parent apply with you. Best of luck. Let us know what happens.

Nope, all the email said was that I've been approved. And I can't access my account with the credit card number...I assume all of the information will be accessible once I receive the card.
