Where Does Discover Excel

Postby MrMosby » Wed Feb 12, 2014 9:08 pm

The three points where discover excel's to me are
  • 5% Cash Back Categories
  • US Based Customer Service (Although my Chase Cards Have this)
  • FICO Score (Barclay's also has that).

Maybe the second item is becoming more and more common, but from what I've heard things like Purchase Protection American Express wins Bar none.

I think the Chase customer service is leading the pack right now.

International acceptance on Discover is almost nil.

Am I missing something?

I would have to include their website. It is so much easier to use compared to the Chase site. And the app is pretty nice as well.
Discover IT - $5,700
Chase Freedom - $5,700
Costco Citi - $13,000
Sallie Mae - $4,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $6,000
Chase Sapphire Reserve - $19,500
Citi Double Cash - $6,500
Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)
FAKOs: CK- TU (760), EQ (760)

I've never used either, but through ShopDiscover you can get extra cash back on online retailers (for instance 10% back on Bloomingdale's) and when you redeem cash back via partnered gift cards you can get greater than a 1:1 ratio of value of gift card to cash back redeemed. So, for example, you can get a $25 Banana Republic gift card for $20 in cash back.

Not a huge deal, but both are nice perks if you would use them anyway.

FICO-8:
EX - 827 (4/17) | TU - 812 (4/17)
Primary Cards:
American Express EveryDay - $20,000 (10/14)
Discover it - $23,000 (2/14)
AU on Barclay Sallie Mae - $10,000 (8/15)
plus several store accounts of varying usefulness now

I love their customer service, and their fourth quarter category for online shopping (when combined with ShopDiscover = $$$).

Not entirely true. Discover has an agreement with JCB to honour Discover cards on their network for over a million Japanese retailers and ATMs. They also have a similar agreement with China UnionPay for ATMs and electronic payment merchants in China. Diners Club cards also accepted through the Discover network in over 185 countries.

Additional plus for Discover...their website! Puts most others to shame for ease of navigation and precise information at your fingertips.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
EQ = 846 EX=828 TU = 836 as of 02/2016

They post cash back super fast @_@ Almost live every second (well, I'm exaggerating). Their website, their app, their CSR are super nice. I love Discover.

I hate Chase (like if most of you care lolz)
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

Once upon a time Chase's website was the best out there, I really like Amex's but I think you are right, Discover's website is better.

I think they may have the best CS I guess too, although I get phenomenal customer service from Chase, but I have a lot of accounts with them. Amex's PRG/Platinum support is pretty good, but man I hate that beeping indicating the call is being recorded.

I actually do, just out of curiosity

I love discover's app, not a huge fan of the website but it's alright

The good morning//afternoon//evening thing is cute

Having logged in almost on a daily basis, I notice a lot of times at night, they are unavailable due to system update or upkeep whatever..also the shop discover, while awesome with cashback (gave me 10% for recent apple purchase)

For awhile it was broken (notably during the cashback for online purchases period)

But it's nice that they told me I earned xx.xx on my recent purchase at Apple, so I don't wonder...wish it wasn't pretax but long scheme of things

Discover just does it for me
