More than 2x CLI from Discover

Postby otter » Wed Dec 18, 2013 2:21 pm

Tried for a three month CLI from Discover online. System said it needed a hard pull. Thought about it and said "what the heck"... 7 to 10 day message. I hate long waits so called.

I explained that I love the next three quarter categories (restaurants, home repairs, and gas) and I'd LOVE to use their card for all my swipes, but it's a pain to make a payment every week to stay under the CL. In a few minutes, I had my $2000 limit.

So really it was almost a 3X increase from Discover. Not bad for a "conservative lender". If only I could get the Freedom and the Citi Dividend to complete my triumvirate of 5% quarterly cat cards, but Chase and Citi both treat me like a leper.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

If I'm reading your cards right, your oldest account is from July of this year. In that case you've done pretty damn well I'd say.

Chase likes to see a minimum of 6 months revolving credit for giving a Freedom, as you might have seen already. All those new accounts might be a bit much for them and for sure will be for Citi, I would not recommend you app with Citi for at least another 5 months. Chase you could app with in February and possibly get Freedom, you might have to recon but they are about the easiest to recon with.

Don't waste any pulls on either of them right at this moment though. And congrats on your CLI!

One thing about my credit file, is that I do have a few "erroneous" accounts closed more than 10 years ago which somehow kept on reporting as "paid as agreed" for several years after they were closed and don't drop off until 2016 so I have two closed trade lines over 10 years. It definitely helps the FICO score and probably fools some of the smaller issuers. I think Chase somehow knows it should be off my report and declines accordingly. Citi actually looked like a possible approval last time, they just wanted me to jump through hoops to prove my home address(I gave them a copy of my paystub, bank statement, auto insurance document, and auto registration and that wasn't good enough for them).

They insisted on a utility statement from me. They won't even take cell phone bill. I only have one utility, the energy company so if that doesn't work, it just wasn't meant to be.

And honestly I could live with that. I'd like to get the card, but we'll see what happens.
