Discover Student Checking

Postby darkguy2 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:04 pm

Anyone else get a offer in the mail from Discover for their student checking? It seems that if you open an account and put in $25 then they will give you $50. It also seems that they do cash back as well. Every transaction gives you 10 cents including checks and online bill paying. Also includes free checks and free ATMs on the Allpoint or MoneyPass networks. Not a bad deal. So if it is less than $10 I can use my Discover debt card to get the 10 cents and for everything else use my it. Only downside is it is still a Discover card and will not be accepted everywhere. Seems you have to have a Discover student card to get it as it required me to log into my account.

Consider Discover has no branch office that you can go to. Everything is online and over the phone. A lot of people already complained about the cash back. Not every transaction is eligible. Discover will check and only apply for eligible transactions. The number of transactions are limited in a day and at a store, too. So you cannot make multiple purchases at 1 place on 1 day to get those cash back
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

I've had great experience with their checking account. I've done a few small transaction test and multiple transactions in a same merchant in the same day and I have always gotten my .10/transaction added to my Discover cashback every statement cut date.

You can use it anywhere a debit card would be accepted, not just places that accept Discover. It uses the pulse network to complete debit transactions.

What exactly is considered an eligible transaction? All transactions I've done via pos/check/bill pay gotten me .10 cents.

I did not realize that it went through a different network. I have the feeling that people will still try to reject it because they do not know that however.

Well I would like to give it a try but I still have not gotten my debit card. I got my checks but I never write checks so they are useless to me. I called and asked about it and they just deactivated my debit card that they had on file and put in for a new one.... that will arrive in 7-10 days. Not the same service that I am used to from my IT. I could of sworn that the mailer that told me about the account said something about expedited card replacement. Though I do not see anything on the regular checking sign-up site. A little disappointed though. By the time I get it I will be gone for the holidays and will not be at my apartment to get it.

How long ago did you get your checks? When I opened my account, I received my checks first then about 2 days later I got my debit card. Not sure why they send checks first.

The package was dated a day after I opened my account. I cannot say the exact date I got it as the package went to my aprt's office and they do not send out notices that I have a package anymore so I have to go check every so often. I also should have gotten my PIN in the mail but never got that as well.
