So a lot of banks now will give 1 or 2 auto CLI's within the first year and then it stops.

Interesting. I got a letter like that from Capital One a few weeks ago. I didn't realize it was a legal issue that prevents them from doing it automatically. They don't have any income info from me at all, they never asked for it when I opened the account.

Yeah, it is part of CARD Act that they have to collect updated income information after the first 12 months to approve more credit. Most banks have decided to allow the cardholder to call to request it or they will send the letters asking for income info. There are other ways around it; for example Equifax has a product available to banks that can estimate a person's income but most banks have decided that just asking for the income protects them. It is really just a formality.

If you are getting an offer from Capital One for a CLI you should take it and then go buy yourself a lottery ticket!

My first call was to activate my card yesterday. The CS rep was nice and answered all my questions sufficiently. I asked her to activate my 5% CB and she did. A few hours later I logged on to the website and saw that it was still asking me to activate it. I went ahead and did so and then got a confirmation email.

When I activated my Freedom the CS rep applied the 5% CB for me and I got an email right away to confirm he did.

Not sure if Discover's system needed time to sync with the call center but if I hadn't thought to check my account last night I could possibly have started shopping without realizing my bonus category wasn't active.

That's why I took matters into my own hands and instead of having to deal with auto CLI's of $100/150/250 etc, I decided to get from $750 to $2000 in one swoop...
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450
