Does anyone have a Diners Club?

Who has one? Why do you have one? I was thinking about getting one, but I'm not sure that the benefits are really there.

I considered having one a while back, but decided to pass. as far as charge card benefits go, it doesn't really do as much as even the Amex green(which has the same annual fee). It does have some nice travel benefits (such as airport lounge access) and a few other benefits unusual in charge/credit cards(such as international cell phone rentals), but for the most part, Diner's Club and its sister card Carte Blanche ain't what they used to be.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

If it is a less expensive option for the airport lounge access, I am game. Do you have experience with that? I did take a look, but it looks like the lounge access is quite limited. Seattle has 0!

You can't apply for a new Diners Club card as a US citizen right now. Rumors pop up about every six months that they'll start accepting applications again. Hasn't happened yet.

Why are they not permitting US Citizens to apply? How about Canada, Australia or the UK?

I believe you can get a "Diner's Club" card if you are a US or Canadian citizen, but it's not really a true DC card as it runs on the MasterCard network.

You're right that they now run on the MasterCard network. BMO/Harris bought the US/Canadian Diners Club card issuing business a few years back from Citi. I think it was at the same time that Discover bought the processing network. But, Diners Club is not issuing any new cards right now unless you work for an existing corporate Diners Club member.

Other than primary CDW coverage (which you can get with the Chase Mileage Plus Explorer for the same $95 annual fee), there's no reason to worry about trying to get a Diners Club card.

I have a Diners Club in the UK, because its free and it used to have free lounge access but I never bothered cancelling it. Its actually accepted a lot more these days as Discover has been expanding acceptance in the UK and non US/Canadian Diners Club cards run on the diners network and the Discover network. Strangely though it is still a swipe and sign card, all other UK issuers have been doing chip and pin for ten years!

I was checking the Diners website again and I believe the most interesting perk of this card is the Airport Lounge access for 15£ a visit. But I'm still here wondering: does it make sense nowadays to get a Diners?

I'm looking at the lounge list and it's a lot more limited then what you get with the Priority Pass membership that comes with the Amex Platinum.
