Mine was shipped via USPS Priority Mail. That's usually a 2 day transit time, but sometimes 3 if it's far enough away. I'm in California and they shipped my card from Nevada. I've read of other people getting overnight shipping, not sure what carrier. That's not what I got.
How long after approval do they ship? Well... they never actually told me when I was approved. The only clue I ever had was a terse email saying "your card is on it's way". So I have no idea when they internally decided to approve me. The shipment email came on a Sunday, and the card was shipped on Monday.
Time from my application to the "Your card is on it's way" email was about 5 days I think.
<Ranting a bit here, but just my critique of the app process:>
I never got a single email about the status of my application, or even whether they had received it, even though I had checked the box asking them to send such messages on my application.
They provide an "application status" page on their web site, but it's useless. It took 2-3 days before it even confirmed that they'd received an application from me. From there, it just kept saying they were evaluating the app. I kept checking for my amusement and it finally announced "You're approved!" 2 weeks after I had received, activated, and used the card. Still never got any emails about that, at all. There's something seriously broken in their communications with new applicants.
But hey, I kept getting mail offers too, so I guess their own marketing department was equally uninformed.
Given all the pride that Discover appears to invest into their customer relations and their web site, I was surprised at how broken their online communications were in the application process. This is pretty basic for anyone who does business on the internet. I certainly could have called, but that's beside the point.
Love the card though, and the phone support is very good.
