3 month Auto CLI!

Postby JeffM » Mon Sep 16, 2013 5:58 pm

Discover's been really good to me. They approved me for a 1500 CL when I first applied for the IT card (my highest limit at the time) and just bumped it up by $300 after the first 3 months. A pleasant surprise :)

Do they only look at usage patterns or do they also soft your credit report (while deciding to grant auto CLIs like this)?

Strangely enough I can't request a CLI through their site. They're asking me to call. Weird, but whatever!

I'm pretty excited that my credit is building well

Congrats! Discover is a tricky one around here. Nobody has got them quite figured out.

Ya I figured they were conservative but I'm surprised by how good they've been to me considering how "thin" my file is. Oh well.

I've gone from thinking of Discover as mostly an afterthought to really liking the company and feeling some loyalty towards them. I've been using the card a fair amount for major purchases to take advantage of a 0% intro APR, but have also been making sizable payments each month to keep the overall balance at less than 30% of my credit limit. Nearing 1 year of full usage, I got an email from them the other day announcing that my credit limit had been increased by $2,000!
I'd wanted a CLI but never ask because I don't want to risk the hard pull, so saying that this came as a pleasant surprise is a major understatement.

With customer service like this, my Discover card is likely going to become my go-to card for everyday purchases, and no less than 2nd choice in my wallet. I'm pretty impressed.

I really like them as well. My 2 older cards are basic Capital One and Merrick cards, so it's really no contest. They approved me for more than my other 2 cards combined, and with a lower ongoing APR than either of them.
I decided to put a major transaction on Discover to exploit the 0 APR promotional period, so if they decide to CLI me in a few months that would be wonderful for my utilization, but I don't think I can realistically expect that until after the balance is paid off. By the 3mo mark I'm estimating Discover will still be around 40-45%, probably too high for anything good to happen unless they have different logic for accounts running 0 APR.
