Discover still wants to remain competitive.

Postby catsartcox » Sat Sep 07, 2013 3:39 pm

Today all my statements posted. So I decided to call Discover again and ask them if they could match the CL of my AMEX blue. Last time I called them asking to match my citi. They wanted to due a hard pull, I said yes. Witch brings me to a total of 4 for this year. Not sure if that is a lot. None the less he did raise my limit to 6k from 2.5k.

Doing good.
Wells Fargo w/ Points - 6.2k
Discover More - 10k
Citi Forward - 3.7k
Citi Thank You Preferred - 18.5k
AMEX Blue - 16.4k
AMEX PRG- NPSL
Barclay Juniper card/Apple - 9k
GE Capital Amazon Store Card 5k

score
722(7/13) 732(8/13) 734(9/13) 743(2/14) 763(07/14) 798(3/15) 749(4/16)

4 inquiries are not alot. But I personally would not allow HP for CLI unless I absolutely need it. I feel that Discover is really slow to increase CL. Chase/Amex are good lender when it comes to give a great credit line.

Cool. I will keep this tactic in mind. Going to use my Discover card more this month and then ask for a CLI after I pay the balance off. Hopefully they'll be interested in giving me a nicer credit line before the holidays.

Just asked for the exact same increase as the OP ($2.5K -> $6K) and got it. No haggling.

I've been able to get Discover to give me CLIs without HPs. I prefer to save HPs for apps.

I've asked for CLIs from Discover several times, and each time it's been a soft pull. I know this because my current report shows two Discover pulls. One was a denial from 2011, and the other was when I got my IT card.

Discover will soft pull, and give you the possibility of a small to medium increase. If you want a large increase or are borderline, they will ask if you want to hard pull. They will ask for permission to obtain your credit bureau reports, ask for employment information, and get your SSN. Without those, they're not supposed to (or unable to) do a HP.
Scores on the mend...
FICO: 650 (Discover/TU, 6/23/2016)
Cards I Use Citi Double Cash, Chase Amazon, Capital One QuickSilver
Sock Drawer Discover IT, Citi Diamond Preferred, AE Visa, QuickSilver One, Walmart CC, CareCredit, CreditOne (keeping for history for now)
Short Goal Reach 680

I have Discovered that Discover(see what I did there :P) will do most everything to make the card holder happy.
They are kinda like Amazon, where they would give you free money if anything goes wrong.
