Still have not used my Discover card

Postby MemberSince99 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 8:59 pm

I got it almost a month ago now, and just have never used it. And don't really even think about using it.

It's just hard to justify in my mind pulling it when I know Discover really couldn't care less about having me as a customer and I'm not the profile they ideally look for (and I got a limit in accordance with that).

At least I HOPE someday my Amex cards will gow - with Discover, I know better.

I'm just not sure what to do with it. I regret opening it even though they have fantastic people in CS (Amex should be as good) and some nice 5% categories and a great online mall.

Probably. Since it's not a huge limit (and few get one with Discover, you do but most will never see your limit with that card) I'm not THAT worried about the fraud potential. Might just actually do what I normally never do and leave it sock drawered, effectively.

"Sock drawered" means to put it away in a dresser and not use it, correct? Won't cards close due to inactivity when you take this route?

Yes that's correct, technically, though simply not using it is roughly the same effect.

Yes eventually they will. Every lender has different policies as to how they handle this. But eventually they will close it. I'm not sure how long it takes a general rule of thumb people give is at a minimum use it every 6 months to keep the account open, with Discover I'm honestly not sure how long they give you.

So if I don't eventually use it, at some point they will close it out.

Ok thanks for clarifying this for me. I'm slowly learning the lingo!
