Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice . . .

Both of my claims to Discover Card's Extended Warranty provider Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. are now two-for-two on rejection. The first was rejected because I did not get the device for which I was filing the claim repaired at their approved facility (which they failed to mention at the time I filed the claim before I got the device repaired at their instruction). The latest rejection was legitimate because the of the warranty's exclusion on Refurbished items. Still frustrating know had I chosen a different card for my purchases, my claims would have been covered. I would say Discover's Extended Warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

The process to file an Extended Warranty claim is arduous also since it's a third-party, not Discover providing the coverage. They want not only the receipt for the purchase, but the credit card statement on which the purchase was made, a letter indicating it can't be repaired (from the manufacturer) and evidence you've replaced the device if it can't be repaired. Caveat emptor . . . I know I'll be taking most of my purchases to my other cards with better coverage and similar rewards. Discover seems to be unconcerned about our 21 year business relationship.

It seems I got lucky with my Extended Warranty claim. I filed a claim for a small Kenmore fan that failed to work. At one point, the process got very redundant. You have to call first and explain your issue, fill up a form they send you with the same info you told them in the call. After some weeks, another agent calls you to verify the info again.

I did successfully navigate all this not so straightforward process. At the end, they sent me my check.
