Nice Find on Discover Cash Back Options

Postby MB131174 » Thu Jul 18, 2013 4:22 pm

I've been using my Discover card more now that I have it changed to the It card, especially since I'm now getting 5% back on my grade 93 gas purchases. Stupid turbo charged German engines. *sarcasm* I found that for redeeming only $40 I can get a $100 Hyatt certificate good towards a two-night stay, plus I get my Hyatt points for the money I actually shell out after the certificate is redeemed. I love to stay at Hyatt Hotels, so if I chose this option that really makes my 1% cash back 2.5%, and my 5% cash back is basically 12.5% due to getting $100 "back" for only $40 redeemed. Finding this suddenly makes my Discover card a WHOLE LOT MORE VALUABLE to me.

Just make sure you read the T&C's when you buy those certificates. They are often very restrictive on when and what you can use them for. But if it fits with what you would use it for then great!

I did and it's perfect. Hyatt puts very few restrictions on awards. They seem to be one of the most flexible chains out there. They can be used on almost any property with the exception of a few very high end ones, Park Hyatt Hotels and the room must not be below $129 per night. Seeing has how most rooms go for $159+ per night and offer is subject to room availability (no black out dates!) this is a perfect way to redeem my cash back for something I use and get a very good percentage vs the standard 1% and 5%.
