Discover More vs It?

Postby jojo » Sat Jul 06, 2013 2:27 pm

I called Discover to ask them the difference between the More and It cards since my searches turned up little information. There's very little difference except for rewards.

Difference: More assigns you an anniversary date, offers 0.25% cash back on the first $3K in purchases from the anniversary date, and 1% cash back on everything else. Warehouse clubs like Sam's only earn 0.25% cash back. You can participate in their 5% cash back special categories.

It offers a flat 1% cash back on everything else AND warehouse clubs. You can also participate in their 5% cash back program.

The rep on the phone converted my card to from the More to It without any credit pulls and I kept my credit line open date. I'm kicking myself that I didn't do this sooner because I bought some furniture at Sam's earlier this year. Since I didn't have a rewards MC, the only other card I could use was Discover. I got 0.25% when I could have got 1% on my leather couches and new dining set.

My account went through a PC last year. Since then, my frequent trips to Sam's Club and other non 5% category spending with my Discover IT Card will provide a much greater cash back reward. I have read on some of the credit boards that some do not see a reason to upgrade; the reason for Sam's Club members is obvious. :)

I would think .75% rewards off the top would be reason enough.

Also when you call it's like CSP you talk with a live person instead of going through the "press 20 sets of numbers for 20 minutes" messaging hell system (which seriously annoys me honestly) the way you do with most cards. You know, those lovely systems designed to prevent you from speaking with a rep where you enter a bunch of information only to be asked the SAME damn questions when you finally do get a human being on the line. I'll confess I've done a bit of fantasizing how nice it would be to get the conference room projector cord wrapped around the neck of the executives who got a bonus for coming up with that, but that would be bad wouldn't it.

So, in my view, it's kind of a no-brainer to do. If you like to not get as much cash back stick with the More card, I can see no reason not to switch though.
