No minimum, free checks, 10c cash back every time I use the debit card (which I use for transactions less than $10, since that would be more than 1% cash back), 10c cash back for each online bill pay & check written. No ATM fees (provided the ATM you use is a free one, which seem pretty easy to find around here), remote check deposit by mobile phone, etc. One sign on for my checking account and Discover IT card, and the cash back from the checking and credit card go into the same cash back pool. Highly recommend it for anyone who has a Discover card.

I just got mines yesterday too, just waiting on checks to arrive so I can set up direct deposit.

ah yes, that's it. Thanks for posting that, Gamma. Best checking account I've seen in a long time.

Glad I could help. Is that gonna be your main checking account? Only downside I see is the loss of cashiers check and the ability to withdraw large amount of money. Although they do offer free official bank checks, I have no idea if that is the same as cashiers check.

You know, I don't mean to steal this off topic, but I got to thinking how ironic it is that I got a checking account, but I never write checks anymore. Ever. I even pay rent with a credit card. Isn't it ironic?

I never had to use checks myself either, until my parents got a car loan from this horrible bank (Fireside Bank) who would charge 10 bucks to any payments made to the loan online or in person. I mean, come on. ONLINE? Only way to avoid the payment fee was sending checks via mail. I would have done money order, but they charge a "processing fee" for any payments made with money order. Unbelievable.

Wow how times have changed then. Heck I have my car loan through Nissan and they use Billmatrix to process payments made online and they charge 12.95 for online payments. When US Bank had their 5% billpay I still came out ahead doing that, but now I eat the cost. I'm just not comfortable mailing a check - many years ago I did that, it was all they had back then. So I wrote a check to pay all my credit card payments and put them in the mail box and a bunch of kids came along and pulled them out of the box, opened the envelopes and left them in the street, according to what a witness who brought the stuff back said. I was like this is great I had to put stop payments on the checks and resend them after notifying my creditors and then hope they hadn't stolen my identity. After that I NEVER left it in the box by the side of the road I always went to the post office and put it in their boxes to prevent the budding young felons from screwing me over. (And what they did is a felony but of course they never got caught. As juveniles not much would have happened to them anyway, though if they wear the wrong t-shirt to school I hear that gets them arrested these days).

Another reason I dislike that, is stuff does get lost in the mail. Years ago I mailed my rent checks and one month I get a call from the landlord hey you know it's after the 1st, and I was like well I mailed the check as always. I had to send another one then a few days later I get a call now we have two checks. That was a mess.

I'd rather do it online. Much faster, safer and more reliable.

I converted to It last week and I was told that my old card design with the More, a monogrammed dark green card, wasn't available with the It program. The rep said that I could continue to use my old card and I could have an additional card from the It catalog.

I looked at the It catalog today. Meh. A beach, a flower, the New York skyline, a cassette tape, some universities, and my university.

My university? Wait. What?

This may not be a big deal to others who went to a well known school, but I went to an obscure state school in the California State University system. The fact that they have their image on a credit card just blows me away. Two other schools in the CSU system also had designs. This leads me to believe that the It card has more designs than what each user sees and their design offerings are region specific. What card designs do you see?

I see all the same designs as you, and I'm in PA. I saw all those state schools in CA and thought, "Um, yeah. NO."

Haha. In the UK several years back we actually changed the name as cheques (Spelt like that here :P) stopped being used. Instead of calling it a checking account, we call it a Current account. Other than giving other family members money (Which is normally done via an instant money transfer system called the Faster Payments service) we don't use cheques anymore.
