Time for a CLI?

Postby t528491 » Thu May 30, 2013 10:31 am

I've been a Discover card member since August 2012, so I was kinda hoping for an auto cli by now. When I hit the CLI button on Discover's site, it comes back with the generic "Your credit limit increase request cannot be processed at this time" message. I called Discover up, and they said they couldn't give me a CLI without a hard pull. :(
I suppose $1500 isn't a horrible limit, but considering I've run (and paid off) a ton of money through this card in the past few months, I was expecting at least a small CLI without pulling my credit. Is there a chance I'll get an auto CLI at the 12 month mark?

It was a year and a half after I got my More card before I got an automatic CLI of $1000. Then I got another less than 6 months later. Only card I've got an automatic CLI on since my first two cards I opened 8 and 9 years ago. FWIW My initial limit was $3000, and I used it solely for the 5% categories once I realized I was only getting .25% on everything else.

You'll probably get one eventually. From what I've read they seem to prefer people who carry a balance but YMMV.

They don't much seem to care about giving you a competitive limit in my experience with them.

I got an auto increase after about a year. Relative to my limit it wasn't much, I went from $8k to $9.5k. When I converted from More to It I got the APR lowered but didn't ask for a CLI.

I only use my Discover card for purchases where the CB is 5% or greater.

I've never carried a balance longer than two cycles.

The best advice I can offer is the hardest to accept: be patient :-)

Good luck!

My more card received a auto CLI at the end of my 5th statement. YMMV but discover does like to see a lot of activity on their cards and they don't seem to mind if you carry a balance.

OK, I suppose I'll wait a bit longer then. I do carry a balance sometimes, if only because I'm still under the intro 0% APR.

I've never gotten and Auto CLI on Discover but, it took almost 2 years before the request increase button showed up for me online.
