How come Discover never has sign up bonuses?

Postby swipe_masta » Wed May 22, 2013 1:32 pm

Is it just me or does Discover rarely have sign up bonuses? Have any of you apped for Discover because you received an offer? I always get paper apps to apply but 14 months of 0% is hardly a reason for me to apply... I wouldn't mind having Discover now that it doesn't have a FTF and is accepted wider internationally, but I'm still adamant that they are holding out on me lol.

I've never seen a sign up bonus or been offered one, personally. But who knows if they target specific people they want as customers. I would not be in that group so I can't comment on that.

The only type of bonus I have seen is the referral bonus. You refer someone, they apply and are approved via your referral link and you both get a one time amount once they charge a certain amount. Around the holidays, I think if was $75. There is a max to the number of people that can apply via your referral link, but it was a pretty high number.

I am currently considering adding a discover It card to my wallet, but I agree the no sign up bonus thing is kinda weak. If they started offering one for a promotion, I would probably jump aboard
(01/10) - Wells Fargo VISA Platinum
(05/10) - Techron Advantage
(10/12) - Amex BCE
(02/13) - Chase Freedom VISA
(09/13) - Discover It
(03/14) - Sallie Mae WMC
(09/15) - Citi Double Cash WEMC
(09/16) - US Bank Cash+ VISA Signature

I haven't seen any sign up bonuses with Discover. They offered me some number of months with 0% for the IT card, but little else. I imagine they don't think they need to offer bonuses because of their rewards system.

Maybe if they had a new travel specific card, they'd offer something. Their product portfolio seems pretty bare right now.
Scores on the mend...
FICO: 650 (Discover/TU, 6/23/2016)
Cards I Use Citi Double Cash, Chase Amazon, Capital One QuickSilver
Sock Drawer Discover IT, Citi Diamond Preferred, AE Visa, QuickSilver One, Walmart CC, CareCredit, CreditOne (keeping for history for now)
Short Goal Reach 680

They got rid of everything except for their IT and business card line! I really hope Discover has something new up their sleeves. Their rewards system isn't unique. I could sign up for Freedom and get a sign up bonus.

For some reason, I never picked up on it but just noticed!!! I've had their regular Cashback card for years and didn't think much of the change. Only their It card is marketed along with the business line. I guess we shall stay tuned! Till then, let's find other bonus signups!
AmEx Platinum 2009 & Blue Cash $3.5K Delta Gold $2K
BofA BankAmericard $6K | Chase[/i] Sapphire Preferred $10K & Amazon $1.5K Freedom $2.2K | CACU Platinum $13K

I got mine in late 2011 and there were several cash back bonus options like $75/$300, $300/$1500, etc. or something to that effect. I just remember getting two or three hundred dollars back after spending $1500.
