Postby dickey1331 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 7:35 am

Applied for the IT card yesterday because I got a flier in the mail. Filled out the application and it asked for a few more questions than they would review it for 5-7 days.

I was going to call the backdoor number today but when I checked my status online it said I was approved! I dont know my credit limit. I might call today or just wait for the card to get him but Im excited!

Got my card today in the mail! My credit limit is $6,000 which is amazing since Discover is usually pretty conservative. Its now my 2nd highest credit card limit.

Paper that came with the card says my credit score is 672 and they pulled from TransUnion

Congrats to you that is amazing as they are like Scrooge typically.

Reading this clinches the fact I'm closing Discover. I have over 750 and they started me at 4500 and it will NEVER increase. I'm done with this Capital One like company. They clearly don't want my busines and I'm HAPPY to oblige them. Besides it will help my AAoA to get rid of them and yes I care about that more than this tradeline which will NEVER grow.

I know you're aware that a closed card will continue to appear on your report and contribute to AAoA for up to ten years after you close it. All you lose is the available credit, which increases your utilization for a given balance carried.

I don't carry balances. Not now, not ever. Literally as soon as it posts, I pay it, I treat these like debit cards because years of having to do it that way taught me discipline and now it's habit. I don't want to preach to the choir here as you're a smart guy who knows why that is good, but I don't carry balances so it's a non-issue for me.

I think we've hashed this out enough across about three threads, now.

Congratulations, OP.

Djrez's post wasn't just about carrying debt (everyone knows that; it's never been a point of contention for anyone), but about AAoA's. That's just as big a consideration when closing any new (or old) line of credit.

And yeah, I feel like I've read about closing a Discover card in every forum category around here.
AMEX: PRG Gold, Business Simply Cash, Business Costco, BCE.
Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards
Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard
HSBC Cash or Fly World Mastercard
USAA World Mastercard, USAA Platinum Mastercard
Wells Fargo Business Platinum
USC Credit Union Mastercard
