Can someone confirm that the 5% counts for gift cards? I would rather be sure before I go out and get a bunch of gift cards that I do not know when I will use.

What GC's?, all they have are HD gc's. It would be worthwhile if they sold visa or mc gc's.

Call me nuts (and you wouldn't be the first) but is all that messing around really worth it for a few percent?

I mean ok, you go to HD, buy a 100 dollar gift card for some department store, then go to that store and use the card. You get your 5% back, where with using another card you might have gotten 2%. So you get 3 bucks, but for that 3 bucks you had to go to HD and buy the card, THEN drive to where you wanted to use it, so after your time and gas for doing that is taken into account, you aren't getting much more in your pocket. I mean I don't know about you, but 3 bucks for an hour of my time isn't something I'm going to jump all over.

I really don't see the value as being worth the hassle and expense to do it. It just seems like another case of human nature, where we are cheap and greedy without really doing the math and the effort vs return analysis before we jump, unless I'm just so dumb I missed something obvious here.

A few percent on a million? Yes. A few percent on a hundred? No.

You can always get a gas card and it would be the same as getting 5% for gas in a quarter. Same for any gift card for a business that you go to frequently. But unlike getting the 5% when you buy from the business you get it up front when you buy the gift card.

I'll be loading up on Southwest, Marriott, and Gas cards to fund future trips. It's still a winning quarter if you have a Lowe's nearby. I have one close to my job.

Agree to that. It's only worth the hassle if you just happen to need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get the GC while you're there. Probably worth it to hold on to spending at other places until you get a bunch of GC's at Lowe's or HD.
