Honestly guys, you know what their swipe fees are, if they give you 5% back, they are losing money on the swipe. But you guys want 5% on MEANINGFUL things?

As pointed out you can do gift cards too. More hassle than I want, but it can be done.

Personally I haven't bothered to check what they are or sign up, I just use the thing for a monthly recurring charge as it is so it really doesn't matter.

I know it seems lame to many of you, but Spring is the time where home improvement projects typically start. If you're planning to replace a toilet or other bathroom fixtures, maybe a screen door, some paint or some new shades...all of a sudden you find yourself spending $1000 bucks and at that point, the 5% is $50 in your back pocket.

Two years ago my wife wanted to build a wood deck to replace the aging aggregate slab behind the house. But she wanted to go green and use Trex fake wood. That stuff costs $30 a board and set me back $1500. I sure would have liked to see some of that as cash back.

Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)

I would say if your Birthday is 1 of the 3 months that would be the only reason to use the card. I will have to see about June but as far as
April and May go I will be using my other 2 cards.

This is why it's a niche category. I have a newer home and I may be able to buy a furnace filter or something but otherwise I have no use for this. Some people will be able to take advantage of it, others who live in apartments/rent a house, can't get a whole lot out of it. I'm not complaining, I just can't take advantage of this category.
