Is it just me...

Postby agp » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:24 pm

... or does losing exclusivity (whatever little there may have been) suck? Discover IT, once a product most people did not know about, is now Discover's flagship and only product, advertised on their front page. Sigh, to the sock drawer it goes.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Any exclusive card (take the Centurion for example) gets watered down over time. The Palladium is like the rarest card at this point, but eventually that will be watered down too. I had the Discover IT long before it became their flagship card, but it doesn't matter. I get them for the rewards they offer, not the exclusivity.

Active Cards:
Chase Freedom 10+10 Visa Signature ($9k Limit - 8/2012)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($10k Limit - 2/2013)
Chase Ink Plus ($7k Limit - 2/2013)
Discover IT ($9.5k Limit - 10/2012)
AMEX Zync (No Pre-set Limit - 1/2010)
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday ($20k Limit - 1/2013 - Backdate to 1/2010)

Maybe it's just me but I couldn't care less about a card being exclusive.

I never switched to the IT from my More card..... I could care less about the 1% cashback as opposed to the tiers, cause if the purchase is not a bonus category with some other card I usually use my Fidelity Amex for 2%. So with the rewards being otherwise identical, for me it came down strictly with design and I like my "dawn of Discover" design card better than that hideous IT design.
