They only do it to comply with the law. Banks used to not display any of this information on the statement, and only in fine print on the T&C. I am sure most banks would go back to those days if the law would allow. They do not want you to see how much interest you are paying. Now they have to give you payment schedules that show if you pay more than the minimal how much money you would save.
Personally any improvement over the old system is a great improvement. In the past they did not even have to tell you why they denied you credit. Looking at my statements (most of mine are online anyway) is not that hard. Then again I cannot remember the last time I paid interest on a credit card.
