Applied for Discover IT

Postby Robrus1 » Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:15 am

I have never had a Discover Card, but I have read on here about their great customer service, and they seem to be a well liked company by most of you. I decided to apply for the Discover IT and was instantly approved and given a $4500 CL. I didn't apply for it because it looks cool, but rather to diversify a bit. Originally I was going to apply for a Discover in June when 2 inquiries would be gone, but I just decided to go ahead and do it.

Up until this point, I have only had Visa and Amex cards, so I thought adding a Discover would be a good move. Additionally, Sam's Club only takes Master Card and Discover here, so I may consider a membership there now. Other than Discover being reputably stingy with their credit limits, is there anything else I should keep in mind/need to know about doing business with them?

Robrus1,

Congratulations on getting your Discover Card. I have been a cardmember with Discover for almost two years and during this time, I have noticed that the CRS's are both friendly and helpful and more importantly, ALL CALL CENTERS ARE RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. The main reason for my getting this card is for use at Sam's Club since they do not accept American Express or Visa credit.

Be sure to check the website frequently for sign up for the bonus cash backs. If you don't check you may miss them as they become available. For example right now there is one to get 2% bonus cash for using the card on Dec. 22nd. This would be in addition to any other bonus, and is obviously well worth signing up for.

Also bear in mind that Discover is known to do mid-cycle reporting under certain conditions like if you ask for a CLI or change your address from what I've read. They MAY auto CLI you but as a rule you won't be able to ask for and get one until after 6 months.

They like a lot of spending on their card, high usage.

At certain stores you may take cash back (called Cash Over by Discover) with no interest as a cash advance - it's considered the same as if you purchased something at the store. There are limits to the amount per transaction and per day that you can do.
