Discover isn't disclosing their categories

Postby FutureBillionaire » Sat Dec 01, 2012 2:13 am

Discover is allowing you to sign up for restaurants and movies in the 1st quarter. Both of these stink since I have the Citi Forward now. It doesn't look like they are doing gas until the 3rd quarter. I'm glad that I have those penfed cards. My discover is going to be used for shopdiscover only looks like.

I have the Citi Forward as well, although I think 5% cashback is worth more than the 5x TY points from the Forward. I sure hope they implement ALL online shopping again for the fourth quarter like this year.
AMEX BCE ($20,000), Citi Forward ($6,800), Discover IT ($5,250), BoA Travel Rewards ($1,800)

Well they didn't disclose their categories this past year either until it was enrollment time for each respective quarter. I for one am pretty pleased with how Q1 is looking. Discover is doing restaurants while the Freedom is doing gas. These types are my most profitable quarters.

Amex Zync - NPSL - 06/12
Discover it - $7750 - 11/12
Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature - $5000 - 11/12
SECU Platinum Visa - $5000 - 08/08
Bank of America Cash Rewards Platinum Plus Visa - $3000 - 06/08
Citi Diamond Preferred Mastercard - $3000 - 05/12
GECRB Old Navy Visa - $2500 - 11/12
Chase Amazon Visa - $2000 - 11/12

I don't have the Citi Forward and probably never will. Because 1. Citi denied me an application due to too many (12) inquiries in six months when Amex, Chase, and Discover insta-approves me with 15+ inquiries in six months. And 2. I don't like how it looks. So I am thankful for the restaurant and movies cash back bonuses.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

No, they just announce very broad categories like this at the beginning of the year and then fill in the specifics come enrollment time. For example, Q3 this year was originally "gas and summer fun" but was relabeled "gas, movies, and theme parks." Likewise, Q4 was originally "holiday shopping" but later relabeled "department stores and online shopping.

They did have the first 2 quarters announced and gave us an idea what Q3/4 would be. This year they didn't.

For those that do not have a card that gets them more than 2% on gas, you can go on Discover's website or call them and receive a special promo Q1 for 2% cashback for gas at either Texaco or Chevron. Just another special promo that is not as visible that someone might take advantage of. I use 3% BofA Cash Rewards Gas or Chase Freedom 5% or Discover 5% rotating. Enjoy the pleasure of getting money back.
American Express Gold Card - NPSL (05/12)
Discover More. 10k (01/01)
Bank Americard Cash Rewards MC 10k 12/12
