I still disagree. The value depends on the redemption. If you're talking cash-back only, I think IT wins. If you look beyond cash-back to overall rewards potential, Freedom wins hands down.

Using the IT in the Discover Mall may net you 11% (10% + 1%), so, say $11 on a $100 purchase. (I'm ignoring the 5% online purchase bonus that expires in two weeks.)

Using the Freedom in the UR Mall may net you 6.6% ((5% + 1%) x 110%). If you redeem for cash, that's only $6.60 on a $100 purchase. However, it's extremely easy to get well over $0.02/point of value on UR point redemptions. At a minimum, that 6.6% becomes $13.20. If you redeem UR points as miles for business class trip to Europe, UR points can be worth $0.05/point. Now, that 6.6% is $33.00.

So, Freedom offers at least three times the potential. It just takes a bit more thought and planning (and a CSP) to redeem the points properly.

I think you're comparing apples and bananas.

As a single card the IT beats out the Freedom with the Rewards Mall and The Freedom wins in acceptance.

As another card in your wallet, well the Freedom definitely beats IT. Remember the Freedom shares points with a CSP and a CSP gets awesome bonuses when redeeming points.

I'm not saying the IT is bad, it just doesn't have the versatility is ones wallet that the Freedom can have.

EDIT: For clarification, I agree with djrez

I have to have two cards with the company to get the best value? Plus, I have to travel abroad on business, although I would rather just fly to Vegas?

Discover IT please.

By itself, it is now the best. But, I see the point that you all are making. I don't think it is worth it to have two cards to get the best value.

The CSP does look the coolest out of most cards though.

Two things Discover can do to make me switch from Freedom to Discover,

* Lower the redemption ratio of cash to $25 and make it incremental to a penny from there.
* Add more gift cards to the selection (where is Target and Walmart GC?)
In My Wallet:
Citi Forward (12/2010) | Citi TY Preferred (05/2011) | Chase Freedom (11/2011) | GECRB/PayPal (05/2012)
Discover it (07/2012) | AMEX BCP (09/2012) | TD/Target REDCard (10/2012) | Chase Ink Classic (11/2012)
BofA BBR (04/2013) | FNBO/ (02/2014) | Barclaycard Arrival (04/2014) | FIA/Fidelity AMEX (04/2014)
