What is Motiva?

Postby gold-rick » Sun Nov 11, 2012 12:50 am

I am not sure if there is already a thread about this card, if there is I apologize.

What exactly is the Motiva card and how does it work? You get 5% back for paying on time?

You get 5% on rotating categories just like all the other Discover cards. The Motiva card offers a year end "bonus" where they give you a percentage back of all interest charges you incurred throughout the year. So it's not really a bonus at all because you only get it if you carry a balance and if you carry a balance, you are just wasting money.
Credit Cards
Amex BCE 25K ---- PenFed Platinum Rewards 15.5K --- US Bank Cash+ 12K --- Discover IT 6K --- Citi Dividend 5K --- Chase Freedom 12.5K --- Amex SPG 6K --- Citi Thank You Preferred 15K

Not Used
Citi Simplicity - 5K, Sam's Club Discover - 10K

Future Cards
Sallie Mae World Mastercard

FICOs
Exp 772 - TU 781 - Equ 781

5% rotating categories is only for More and IT. Motiva does not have it.

Motiva does have ShopDiscover.

It's one of the Discover cards that you don't want. Miles, Escape, More, and IT should be the only cards that you consider for your wallet.

I believe it's a low interest card similar to the chase slate, citi simplicity and American express clear card. I believe with the Motiva card you get no rewards but you get a much lower interest rate.

Not even close. It offers reward and charges higher interest rate. Its benefit is 5% of interest back in the form of cashback for paying on time each month.

Motiva is one that really made me scratch my head. Could not figure out any sensible reason why anyone would apply for this card, especially if given the option between this and far superior Discover cards like More/It, Escape, etc. I think the language is just meant to confuse people into thinking they're getting 5% cash back on all purchases
