Say hello to discover more newest member - me!!!

Postby FICOLICIOUS » Sat Sep 29, 2012 9:11 am

Applied yesterday, Friday, 5pm using their standard invitation letter.

My FICO's, pulled last week, with UTI of 7% ($5100 credit), TU:666; EQ: 699.

First rep got some basic info, then put me on hold. He came back on and said he was transferring me after getting a few more info about me. Second rep was talking to me, while viewing my TU report. Asked me my job, income and why I had disputed a few items on my report (i.e., my student loan by ACS). Surprsingly, he listened.

He put me on hold few a few minutes, came back on and said, "Congratulations Mr xxxxxxx. Welcome to the Discover Family."

He then misspoke. He said my credit line was $13,000. Im sure he meant $1300. I dont make that much money for a $13,000 limit. I asked which reports he pulled, he said TU.

This morning I viewed my reports and found a HARD PULL on Equifax, too. Nothing on Experian.

Anyway, earlier in the day, I applied for the CHASE FREEDOM REWARDS. I have a CHASE checking account. My branch agent said I will get a letter, standard procedure. They ONLY pulled my Equifax.

So, in celebration of my DISCOVER MORE card, Id like to treat all of you to milk and cookies, on me, Andy Kaufman-esque, of course.

Refinance my auto through a CU, with their credit card approval (no rewards); DISCOVER MORE approval; (fingers crossed) CHASE FREEDOM approval and Im done for a year.

Need another year of solid payments on my student loan to bring my payment history up (multiple missed payments in past 25 months).

Hopefully, next year at this time, AMEX BLUE CASH PREFFERED and CHASE SAPHIRE PREFERRED. One can dream, right?!? ;-)

I just joined the Discover (More) family yesterday! (0% APR on purchases/transfers for 15 months)

They pulled my EQ score (FICO 751) and gave me $1000 limit. I was a little surprised at the low limit. I called the reconsideration # to see if I could get a higher limit and told them I wanted to do a balance transfer for more than $1000. The recon rep said she couldn't do anything to get me a higher limit.

Also, I thought I was applying for the "IT" Card, but apparently the link I clicked was for a Discover More application... Recon rep said she could do a product change, but it wouldn't guarantee the same offer/rate. She said after I receive the More card the rates would be locked in and I can call and have them do a product change to the "IT" card without losing the 0% deal. I can't see any substantial difference between the More and the IT card. They seem the same but the "IT" card seems to have no late fee on your first late payment and the "IT" card is expedited to you within 1-3 days (with fancy packaging).

Anyone have experience getting their limit raised immediately for a balance transfer? If that won't work, how long do you have to wait before you can request a Credit Limit Increase with Discover? Any thoughts on changing to the "IT" card?
Credit Union Visa: $5000 (4/11)
Discover IT $1750 (10/12)
Chase Freedom $1500 (3/13)
BofA Credit Card: $18.7k (1/02) (Authorized User)
Secured CapOne Visa: $300 (5/12)
Banana Republic Store: $1200 (5/11)
Express Next A-List: $1340 (6/11)

FICOS (as of 3/15/12):
EQ 762
EX 731
TU 747

Discover is known for giving low credit limits. If you need a good balance transfer card, check out Chase Slate, Citi Simplicity or Citi Diamond.

Chase seems to pull reports from EX where I live (NJ) and I just had 2 hard inquiries from CitiBank on my EX report when applied in October/September for Citi Forward Card. Citi denied me for the Citi Forward card, which surprised me given my credit scores. Knowing this do you think Chase would approve me for Freedom, Slate or Sapphire?

I applied for the Discover More card because they primarily pull either TU or EQ reports where I live. Figured I'd give my EX a rest for a couple months.
Credit Union Visa: $5000 (4/11)
Discover IT $1750 (10/12)

Chase pulled TU for me when I went into the Parsippany Branch. I don't know if doing it online makes a difference.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

Discover gave a low credit line when I got their card too. Discover later increased the credit line but to do so they hard pulled my TU report. Any creditor can pull any credit report.

Don't let inquiries stop you from trying to get a better offer, the worst they can say is no and it's only a couple of points off your credit score. Your scores are well above 720 so you should be fine.
