CLI Success!

Postby Ratfacedudeguy » Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:04 am

While recovering from the sting of once again being told that Chase wants absolutely nothing to do with me (too many INQs), I decided to capitalize on the moment and get some CLI apps in before the Chase INQ from today hits my CR.

So I went to the Discover website as I recently paid off my $3400 balance transfer and asked them to off-cycle report for me. I saw on my Credit Score Tracker that the report hit today, so it was definitely time to take action.

The "Request Limit Increase" button was not on my main login page, as it hasn't been for me for quite some time. So I went into the online chat and the rep that helped me was knowledgeable and concise with the request. She also informed me that Discover pulls from Experian if a hard pull is required, which it was in my case. I told her the reason for my CLI request was that I wanted to transfer an installment loan balance of about $7000 to my Discover card. She told me at the end that my request required further review and that I had to call the backdoor line within 10 days to complete the request. For those interested, the Discover backdoor line that she gave me is 800-347-4856.

Not 5 minutes later I missed a call from that number. Surprised that they hadn't left me a voicemail (and expecting the worst), I called them back and sure enough they had approved my CLI request and bumped up my CL from $3400 to $7000! This is exciting for me because it's my first >$5k credit line and it just goes to show once again how valuable it is to me to have Discover in my corner.

Congrats to you that's a great CLI! Well worth a hard pull, I'd take one to double my limit any day!

I'm sorry to hear about Chase as well. Your experience with Chase sounds like mine with Citi - Citi will not touch me with a 10 foot pole.

Discover really is great I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Haha, yeah I guess that's the power of declaring a balance transfer as the reason for increase. Funny thing is I'm currently haggling my credit union (that I work at no less!) to increase my limit from $2500 to $5000. Actually they'll give it to me outright, but I also wanted to refinance my signature loan with them --the same one I told Discover I'd be transferring over to them lol -- but our policy is you have to borrow a minimum of $300 above the current loan principal when refinancing and evidently I'm right at my unsecured debt limit with the $2500 CLI, and they don't even know about the Discover CLI yet lol! It's interesting to see these two companies' differences in acceptable unsecured debt limits at work.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely feeling good about this one. Oh, and I was just checking my credit reports earlier. Looks like they definitely did pull my Trans Union report for this CLI, and not Experian as I was originally informed. I think the rep was just confused with what bureau they pull from for new account applications.

Actually for both my cards they pulled Equifax rather than Experian.

Oh ok. My inquiry from Discover dropped off a while ago so I couldn't verify.
