bobzig, maybe you should call discover back at the executive number and ask they why they did a hard pull when they said they wouldn't

Ok so I called them back. They said that making a request online is a soft inquiry, but since it didn't go through that's when the CLI guy wanted to know if I was ok for a hard inquiry to complete the request.

The Discover rep said that it should say on the credit score tracker if it was a hard or soft and that if it indicated it was a hard then to call them back. I checked online right now and nowhere does it say if it was a hard or soft. All I see are the two inquiries on TransUnion when I opened my account and the other from the date of the CLI request.

Anyone know how I can tell the difference?? I thought only hard inquiries would appear the credit score tracker.

Just got off with the phone with Discover. I called to see if they would increase my credit line. Since I opened my More card in July of last year, the limit has been a piddly $1000 with no increase. After light to moderate use throughout the year, and twice running the monthly utilization up to 90% (but I do pay in full), I was kind of surprised they never auto CLIed me. Love Discover and have had a great experience with them but it has always been the lowest limit credit card I have. Anyways, I asked for them to triple my credit line to $3000-- the credit analyst said it would be a hard pull. Fine by me.... he mentioned how I had a few newer accounts, no negative payment history with any of them, and that I had higher limits on the other cards. Then he approved it! It's not a huge limit, and its still half the limit of my higher cards, but I'm glad it finallly got boosted! I can live with 3k, considering the initial thousand it came from. Next in line to request a CLI will be my Chase Freedom in a few months.

Thanks man! Finally, I don't have to worry about utilization going out the window when I fill up my gas tank a couple times. That's what I told them too for the reason I wanted an increase, and the guy agreed.

You've obviously demonstrated you should have a higher limit and that's great!

I went online to attempt to request an increase on my cards and it told me that I needed to call customer service. I dont' want to do a hard pull, so I'm not going to even bother.

Got my Discover More during my first year of college on October of 2010 with 500 CL.
Since then I am getting a few hundred CLI without asking, and its 2000 now... Hope they keep increasing it. I use it as a primary card.
