Postby FutureBillionaire » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:02 pm

Can anyone explain the benefit of getting the open road card vs either of the other two? I don't see the value in the open road card.

The Open Road from Discover is a very good card. Now comparing this card vs the 2 you mentioned, with the Open Road card you might get some nice coupons on certain places that you don't get with the Miles and Escape cards. Plus the escape has a $60.00 annual fee, where the Open Road has no annual fee.

With the More I get coupons from time to time on stores like Barnes and Noble, Bass, and Evelyn and Crabtree. Somebody who has the Open Road card might get coupons on gas stations and restaurants like Fridays. Gas might be Shell or Getty. And for somebody who has the the 2 cards you metioned the Escape and Miles you might get coupons for certain airlines.

For somebody who doesn't travel on business, but likes to eat out a lot and hmMall, the movies and out to eat it adds up.

I was just wondering. It doesn't seem like a great choice when compared to the others.

The Open Road card is 2% cash back on gas and restaurants with a $250 monthly cap. (It used to be a 5% cash back on gas card.)

Compare with the Fidelity Amex at 2% cash back on everything with no cap.

I have the Escape. It is basically a 2% back card, on everything, no blackout dates, can use anytime, miles never expire. It does hav ethe 60 dollar fee as mentioned, and gives you 1000 miles a month for 25 months when you use it each month.

Has some nice perks as well.

Basically if you use it as a heavy hitter card it's pretty good for travel rewards.

yeh but Dave he wants to compare it to the Miles. I know what you are saying.
I have a question for you Future, do you travel on business? Both cards the Escape and Miles gives you 2 points per dollar.

I see you use your Penfed for gas, do you ever get any coupons for gas stations?

I happen to think the open road is a very nice card, I understand how you feel that you like the other 2 Discover levels better. me personally I only have the More card. I think 1 of my co workers has a open road card.

Future if there's anything I can do for you, if there's any questions you would want me to ask my co worker, let me know.

If u apply or convert ur existing discover more or open roade to escape or miles they add some extra perks such as road side assistance and trip cancellation insurance. And with high usage escape customer, I have also seen airport lounge access, luggage insurance and and upgrade from 25k car rental coverage to 50k coverage.

Unrelated question for you irvine801: Is that 7.99%apr on your More card that low because you work for Discover? I didn't think they went that low. Also, do Discover employees get additional perks on their card accounts?

On a Discover card? Really? How does that work? I don't think I could just flash an Escape card at the door.
