Re: Discover Auto CLI

I received my letter from Discover today and it said that my ratio of monthly payments to income was the reason for the decline. After looking at my payment history relative to my income, I guess $500 is enough for now. If I need more credit, I can always use my Freedom.

I'm going to use my card some more, keep lengthening my credit history, and try again in about 6 months.

Have you been paying less than the statement balance on your card? Or spending a lot relative to your income?

I was paying down the card until this April, paying more than the minimum payment each month until April when I paid in full. Then I stopped using it except for a few times per month. Since May, I have been paying the balance in full. My income is low, so I'm not spending much at all relative to that.

I have had my Discover It card for almost two years now and I haven't received an auto CLI yet. They only gave me a $500 "toy" limit because I was in college and still building my credit history. I did not get their student card because I applied during my last semester of college and I didn't think the student card was practical for the long term.

I also have a Chase Freedom card that received an auto CLI four months after getting approved. This card was my first and I was nowhere near my limit when I used it solely.

I have read past entries in the blog about people who have received an auto CLI after two years of membership. Does this happen for everyone? And if not, what are my chances of getting an auto CLI from Discover?

Thank you so much for your responses.

A Discover auto CLI should happen every six months with new accounts. Mine went from $500 to $750 since January.

Each individual situation is different, I've had my Discover for a little under a year now, and no CLI (auto or otherwise) yet. I don't expect it to happen until I get some collections off my record, and get a lot more history with my main cards (the store cards will go away soon).
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD
