Discover Increasing Fees

Postby im_mr_awesome » Wed Apr 13, 2016 6:51 pm

Discover sent me a message indicating they are increasing fees for Late Payments and Returned Payments from $25 and $35 to $27 and $37, with multiple/repeated late payments increasing from $35 to $37 as well.

Not that you would ever want to be late, but it's worth noting. $37 seems high, though they do indicate your late payment fee will never be higher than the minimum payment. Good if you use it only for Netflix or something when it's not a useful 5% category and forget to pay that $8...

I received the same letter. In the fine print, it specifies that the late fee will be no more than $15 for balances under $100, $27 for balances from $100-$250 and $37 for balances over $250.

It's also worth noting that you can configure account alerts to email or even text you a variable number of days BEFORE your due date, ON your due date AND if you ever go delinquent. So they give you plenty of tools to avoid that late fee.

I would agree. There is really no excuse for a late fee unless your negligent and then late fees are the least of your problems.
