So a large transaction hasn't posted

Postby 4ktvs » Mon Feb 29, 2016 9:55 pm

It went from pending right to the balance a few days later without becoming listed under posted transactions. I took advantage of Discover deals and followed the rules.

Is this normal for a Discover deals Transaction or should I call Discover before my statement cuts to see what is going on?

Please note Transaction was over a week ago so that is by far the longest I have seen a transaction not become listed as a posted Transaction.

It will probably post sooner or later. You should get the Discover Deals cash back, but if it doesn't post before the statements cuts you may have to wait longer.

It's rare, but I have had strange things like that happen on internet purchases. You can certainly try calling Discover, but contacting the merchant may be more helpful (just thinking they might tell you it will post when it ships). I had a similar situation with Amex (it had been a couple of weeks and I hadn't gotten a shipping confirmation; the transaction was pending for the longest time then just disappeared). I called and they essentially said, " there's nothing we can do; if it posts and you don't get what you ordered you can start a dispute later, but you'd have to contact the merchant to find out what's actually going on."

There's a wide range of what's "normal" for Discover deals. It's not just a matter of Discover deals but the merchant. I've had deal transactions that posted immediately and some that took some time. I'd also suggest checking with the merchant first.

Well now the transaction shows shows up, but it took days after I got the product. It shipped before then by quite a bit.

In my case a long time had passed before my order shipped. I tried calling the merchant (one I'd never used before) but it would always go to voicemail. Made me pretty uneasy. The transaction then disappeared - only to post right when the statement cut. When I called I was thinking about starting a dispute right then (not being able to get through to anyone at the merchant made me pretty angry), but the Amex CSR convinced me to just wait it out a little more.

Glad it worked out, though. Sounds like it posted before the statement cut, too? Sometimes it still takes Discover a cycle to post rewards from Deals, but it will work out sooner or later.

It did post before the statement cut, but then it didn't give me the rewards for being a Discover deal but instead a normal %1 transaction. I called customer service and was told to wait until the next statement cut for the reward to be granted.
