Discover ApplePay Promo

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Fri Sep 11, 2015 12:04 pm

There is a big promo coming up. I use an Android phone, though, and can't participate.

Anyone who has an iPhone and a Discover should look into it.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

Discover is part of Apple Pay now? I always thought the initial launch didn't happen because of the lack of EMV and their partnership with Goolge Wallet and Paypal (both of which they no longer promote).
American Express: Blue Cash Everyday (10k), Everyday, ; Discover It (7.3k) ; Target (2.1k)

Citi: Diamond (2k) ; Bank of America: Cash Rewards (2.6k) ; Capital One: Quicksilver (3k) , Sony ; Chase: Freedom (3.7k), Slate (3k), (Amazon) ; Barclay Ring ; Synchrony: Walmart MC, Amazon, Ebates

I got the impression the promo is an effort to capture market share, making up for their late start.

Discover will probably be sending emails about it in the next few days.

They recently announced Apple Pay finally arriving I think next week. I'm curious to see what the promo is.
Kohls: $300, Discover IT: $1.8k, Capital One Quicksilver: $2k, Amazon Store Card: $2.2k, BoA Cash Rewards: 1k, Chase Freedom: 3.2k, AMEX HHonors 3k

It's an additional 10% cashback on all purchases made with Apple pay in store, making it 11% cashback on up to $10,000 in purchases, $1,100 cashback total. If you signed up for the double backpack promo back in June, that's potentially $2,200 cashback total. I'm a galaxy user, but this will encourage me to purchase an iPhone just for this purpose.

If you signed up for the double cashback wouldn't that make it 20% cashback / 12% cashback?

Yup. With the double cashback promo, that makes it 20% cashback plus the 2% regular rate, making it 22% cashback (11% cashback for those without that promo.)

Here's a link of the promo

I'm sure Discover will let card members know sometime next week via email.

I had the same idea, but not very many of the places I normally shop participate in Apple Pay. It would only make sense with large-scale optimized spend, which isn't something that interests me.

My phone is fairly new and not in need of replacement.

What I plan to do is purchase retail gift cards, gas gift cards, and visa gift cards to take full advantage of cashback. I purchased a used iPhone online and plan to resell it after I'm done with it
