Right. They ingrain it into people's heads and then people expect with no failure that they'll get a 3x CLI whenever they want (not true), and this latest Discover thing is the same thing. Everyone's like "has the discover train stopped?" I just shake my head.

Credit is always going to be individual and there are no guarantees even if you see "trends". Myfico seems incapable of understanding this as a whole. Once one or two cardholders have success with something, it's taken as gospel and posted as "expert advice" for everyone.

Speaking of which. Day 16 is here and I am stuck at 6K. Lol. Ride is definitely over.

I knew it wouldn't last forever. It just really annoyed me how everyone on myfico was convincing even newbies that oh sure, they'd get a bump every 16 days like clockwork. Ridiculous.

Guaranteed, or double your money back.

Well if true that sucks. I only need one more to get to 10k. Damn.

It's not as if they've stopped CLIs entirely.

No, but if it's back to the way it was, it's pretty stringent. I was never able to get one from them before without taking a hard pull, which I just wouldn't do since I didn't think it would get me anywhere. Hopefully I can get one more out of them.

Then it's almost time for an Amex CLI. Since my limits are 9.5k and 18k, it won't be an attempt for 3X. No sense triggering a CLI review. I'd just like to get the 9.5k card over 10k - that's good enough for me.

And on that subject, in July will be 6 months with Barclay's. I KNOW there won't be any auto luv there - they'd probably tell me I'm "lucky" they don't shut me down for new accounts and inquiries. Actually I'm totally fine if they do. I have two other WE MCs and something has to go so if it's that, I'm cool with it. I don't even care if it says closed by issuer to be honest. If anyone asks in a manual review I'll just tell them I wanted to try everything out there, and I did, and I kept what I liked best. If any lender has an issue with it, so be it, someone else will step up to the plate. (Plenty already have). I doubt they'll do anything, just saying that the card is not looking like a "keeper" to me, so it's cool with me. I'll post if I get any luv on that but I sure would be shocked. Might make me keep it around though even once the fee comes due. I still however would like to close at LEAST one card at some point in the next 6 months.

God that turned into a mini essay.

I was a bit frustrated with discover not being accepted everywhere online since that's where I do majority of my shopping, surprisingly irl since I eat at a lot of food trucks and small biz restaurants and cafes that utilize square I'm good there

So when Colette had two pieces I wanted; I wanted to purchase through discover to not get the ftf and also get cashback (double since my statement cycle already started ^-_______-^) and I noticed that they had a paypal option

Was able to easily connect my discover card there and viola--

Also got a credit card limit increase even though that purchase was large I still had room but I wonder if more high usage will prompt them to give an auto credit increase?

ive already had three before that but they kinda stopped when I wasn't using them that much

In my own experience, large dollar item purchases do not impress them (this isn't Amex we are talking about). Lots of swipes even for a sandwich at Subway seem to be looked upon more favorably. I never "got" this before when I had Discover so I ran only a few big dollar items through the card thinking they'd like that but when I went for a CLI, it was a no go without a hard. They "seem" to prefer to be an every day use card as opposed to big dollar use like Amex. Just what I experienced with them (though I've seen others mention the same thing). Using them daily for smaller amounts but more swipes has seemed to build up my internal limit with them better, just personal experience.
