Discover EMV

Postby CC Deville » Sat May 23, 2015 9:30 am

I just received my Discover More card with an EMV chip and noticed something weird; on the signature panel instead of having the last four digits of my account number there is an X followed by dive digits. For those of you with Discover IT EMV cards, do you all have this as well?

Right now I have two EMV Discover cards. The first one requested on this January does not have X----- on it, but the one requested this month has an X followed by 5 digits that I have no idea what that meant.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

My non-chipped Discover IT card did not have the X - number. But my new chipped card does. I assume it's a way to identify the chip batch. But that's just my 10 cents.

Mine has an X on it. I tried to use it at Walmart too and it wouldn't work, and I couldn't swipe it either. I had to hand it to the cashier to swipe. Really annoying method of making a transaction.

I've only had one issue with my Discover card at Walmart. And I'm pretty sure it was the machines issue. Sometimes the magnetic readers require cleaning and/ or the smart card reader needs cleaning. However there are times when the card's magnetic strip is too worn to be read.

I have heard that people are having trouble with their chipped Discovers. I have not used mine yet; however, my Amex, Chase, Citibank and BofA EMV cards work flawlessly at Walmart and The Home Depot.

I personally can't wait until more stores start allowing the use of Chip and Signature cards. I can't stand having one and not being able to use it at most stores.

Agreed. I secretly hope that the merchants that drag their feet get hit hard with chargebacks come October (except the small merchants-I do not wish harm on them).
